Re: use ies on fryrender
You need to model the light as it would look in real life
Maybe i can do some test later

Re: use ies on fryrender
Here's an image that can be used as a textured emitter :
Map it on a circle . It works quite well.

Re: use ies on fryrender
Really useful because the units in which an emitter generates light beams are solved by Fryrender and the only is to define the radiation diagram or the way the light is distributed in the 3D world.
The first way looks like enough. With a scene test conformed by a wall and a ground and putting the light near the wall I think is a real valid way to simulate the .ies lights.
Have in mind fryrender2008 that lights in the strict term doesn't exist so the most important are these two factors:
a).-The power of the light.
b).-How the light is distributed and this has been right solved by Stromberg 90 so nicely.
Regards.

Glad that you liked it
Here is a wirefram of the model i used, with guide lines
The emitter is pointing upwards.

Re: use ies on fryrender
I think this mantains really close and with a lot of fidelity to the real world. From its construction to its behaviour.
And from here other users can start to experiment and make other tests in order to get other radiation diagrams.
A question: it depends on the cap of glass (dielectric or ghost?) (shape, form...)in a 90%...
Regards...

Re: use ies on fryrender
The glass it's best to use ghost, the render i did post is with dielectric.. but i tried it with ghost before that and it looks the same.

WOW ! Great caustics !
Could you share the water material ?
I seem to be caustic-challenged
Cheers,

It would be a great contribution Stromberg.
And it would be taken as a knowledge source from other users not very compromised with this forum...
We hope you make this.
