Museum in the marshes

Post  Ibon on Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:54 am

Hi Frydemo friends. I'm an architecture student and last week i did this project for school. I used sketchup for modelling and fry for rendering. After 7 hours, this is what i got:

I would be very pleased to receive tour c&c and have the chance to learn from you... there are so much things i don't know well how to do.

For example: What are best settings to make a realist water material? are some tips or rules to make my renders not being so noisy? (appart from cooking time) Many thanks for your time Rolling Eyes

¡Thanks for posting!

Hi Ibon!

Maybe you would like that your water was more transparent and with some caustic effects...If this is the sae water and tehere's a lot of deep maybe this can be watched as Fryrender has rendered this time but I think that this could help you:

http://www.randomcontrol.com/downloads/repositories/tutorials/Pool_water_caustics.pdf

And we are happy that you have posted this in our forum. Great render and we would like to know your hardware configuration...It's not bad "only" 7 hours...

And your render is not noisy...anyway there are some advices related to this:

http://frydemo.forumotion.net/tips-and-tricks-f4/tips-and-tricks-for-beta-version-but-still-valid-for-present-versions-t10.htm

If you make the modification/s, please, post your new render/s.

Thanks for posting.

P.S.: (I deduce that you speak Spanish, don't you?) Razz

Hello Jorari! Thank you for your rapid response, we are lucky to speak the same language Smile The truth is that I always have had problems with fryrender at the moment of creating the water material, since when fitting bump I cannot rely on the scale of the previsualization of the material. I usually end making it by "test - mistake", with long time of wait. The same thing happens to me with the HDRI.
I know that the water has an index of refraction of 1.33, but if I do a material like that it does not reflect practically anything, so I add another layer that isn´t completely transparent and reflects much more. I do not know very well how to do it. To remove little noise that was staying in the images, I used a program called Neat Image.

My computer: A portable Core Duo with two processors of 2,3GHz, graphical card Nvidia of 512Mb and 2Gb of Ram. The render has 3 layers of light to create the multilight, the sky, the lights of roof and those of soil.
Thank you very much for your advices, I wait to improve thanks to this forum!

Hola Jorari!

Hi Ibon!

We speak Spanish a few members in this forum. Nice to see you.

First of all, please make tests to check a particular aspect in other scene less complex: try to build a simple scene and make tests following the steps written in the tutorial of the "fake caustics for the water material" that I've posted before. Don't make tests with the whole scene. When you have reached the desired effects try to make tests with your new material. I think that in the .pdf is all explained...There are no material attached but I think that there's enough information.

Related to the second image: I haven't realised that the lights reflecting over the sea are a bit rare because of the undesired optical effect due to the position of the camera and the reflections: You can see the reflections of the fluorescent lights but you can't see the fluorescent lights as much you should. It's usual that this happens and maybe it's due to the amount of reflection that you have added to the water...It's curious...After a few minutes the observer realises that this reflection is due to the fluorescent lights...Hahahaha...But don't worry, it's not so important. Do you think that the increase of reflection is so important? Well, for example, in the night render these reflections add a good looking aspect (queda chulo Smile )

Anyway, which improvements do you think that you need in order to get "your" water? I would try to reduce the reflection of the water to reduce the increased amount of reflection due to this effect: things that you can't see clearly create reflections that are more visible...It's only my opinion. Do you want more transparency? Do you want caustics? I think that this tutorial I've posted in the other message could help you.

By other part: My messenger: jorari71@yahoo.es. For any other question and to talk about everything I could help you. Razz
